About the 9-5 Takeoffs window

Note: This functionality is available only if you have the Estimating Module.

There are five tabs in the 9-5 Takeoffs window:

Each tab provides tools for working with and viewing different aspects of the project’s estimates.

Note: If you open a template from the Takeoff Launch window, the window is called 9-5 Takeoff Templates.

You create and modify takeoff templates as you would a regular takeoff, with the following differences:

  • You use the 9-5 Takeoff Templates window to work with templates. (You use the Takeoff Launch window to open takeoff templates.)
  • Templates do not support attachments, custom fields, row tags, or printing.
  • Templates do not support options that would modify the database (for example, you cannot export purchase orders or budgets).
  • Because templates do not write data to the database, there is no record or field history to track. Therefore, the View menu does not exist for templates.

Tip: You don't always need to create templates from scratch. If an existing takeoff or takeoff template contains elements that you frequently use in jobs, you can export the takeoff or template to create a new takeoff template that you can modify as needed.

Project Values tab

The 9-5 Takeoffs window opens with the Project Values tab in view.

You use the Project Values tab to declare values for project variables, which Sage 100 Contractor then uses throughout the entire takeoff. For example, you might use certain measurements, such as a building’s total square footage or exterior perimeter, in formulas throughout a takeoff.

Takeoff Details tab

Use this tab to set up bid items and phases, and then enter parts and assemblies into the grid.

The columns define the parts and assemblies with Part#, Description, Unit, Quantity, Cost, and more.

Tips:

  • If your takeoff has an assembly with a negative cost, select the Do Not Calculate Assembly Cost option so that you can save the takeoff.

To prevent unauthorized users from editing or deleting the details of a takeoff, while preserving the ability to view and export the takeoff, select the Lock Edit checkbox.

Recaps tab

Use the buttons at the bottom of the window to break down your takeoff by Bid Items, Phases, Assemblies, Cost Codes, Cost Types, Tasks, Vendors, and Cost Code by Bid Item.

Tip: You can customize and save the column widths in the grid, so you don't have to readjust the columns whenever you return to this tab.

Insurance, Tax and Bonding tab

Use this tab to calculate and include costs related to liability, use tax, and bonding.

Bid Summary tab

Use this tab to adjust the bid summary to your business requirements.

  • Takeoff Summary shows the calculated totals for the estimate.
  • Apply Margin Override provides a way for you to apply a gross margin override of a specified percentage.
  • Apply Markup to Ext Price applies the markup to the extended price.
  • The preceding amount is used to calculate the Calculated Bid Totals line.
  • The Bid Amount can be adjusted up or down and locked to meet business requirements.

Notes:

  • Apply Margin Override and Apply Markup to Ext Price are mutually exclusive. You can use one or the other, but not both.
  • You can set the default properties in many of the text boxes, checkboxes, and grid cells to provide security control.
  • The insurance, sales tax, and bonding amounts are not reflected in the takeoff totals, grid, or any recaps. These amounts are displayed individually on the Bid Summary tab.
